Guernsey County America 250-Ohio events and information

Welcome to Guernsey County’s America 250 – Ohio Celebration!

Guernsey County proudly joins communities across Ohio and the nation in honoring our shared history, culture, and future. From our rich pioneer heritage to our vibrant present, we invite residents and visitors alike to explore the stories, landmarks, and people that make Guernsey County a vital part of the American journey. Join us as we reflect, celebrate, and look ahead to the next 250 years together.

Guernsey County joined the statewide celebration of America’s 250th anniversary in June 2024, when the County Commissioners passed a resolution to become an official America 250-Ohio Community. That commitment was formally recognized in November, when the commissioners received their designation along with the official America 250 flag and commemorative resolution.

The presentation was led by Debbie Robinson, Executive Director of the Cambridge/Guernsey County Visitors & Convention Bureau and co-liaison for Guernsey County’s America 250-Ohio initiative, alongside co-liaison Commissioner Bill Cowgill. The moment brought together Commissioners Cowgill, Jack Marlin, and Dave Wilson to mark Guernsey County’s role in honoring America’s past while celebrating its future.

As part of America 250-Ohio’s  Creativity Trail, the Mosser Glass Factory and the National Museum of Cambridge Glass showcase the region’s legacy of craftsmanship and innovation. At Mosser Glass, visitors can witness skilled artisans transforming molten glass into timeless pieces using techniques passed down through generations. Just minutes away, the National Museum of Cambridge Glass offers an inspiring journey through the county’s rich glassmaking history, featuring over 10,000 dazzling pieces and interactive exhibits. Together, these attractions celebrate the artistry, industry and creativity that define Guernsey County’s contribution to America’s cultural heritage.

Marking the America 250 – Ohio celebration, the Guernsey County Commissioners and Cambridge City Mayor, Tom Orr, proudly planted our Heritage Tree on April 23, 2025  marking the beginning of an ongoing effort to plant trees that honor the people, stories and milestones that have shaped our county and our nation. Each tree serves as a living tribute—rooted in history and growing toward the future—creating a legacy of natural beauty and reflection for generations to come.

Murals Across Ohio – Celebrating Guernsey County’s Stories in Art

As Ohio prepares to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026, Guernsey County is proud to be part of Murals Across Ohio, a statewide initiative of America 250–Ohio. This inspiring program celebrates the vibrant stories told through public art in every corner of our state—honoring our past, celebrating our present, and imagining our future.

Here in Guernsey County, two murals will help tell our story.

  • Cambridge’s Hopalong Cassidy Mural, already featured on the official Murals Across Ohio map, pays tribute to our hometown hero, William Boyd—the beloved actor who brought Hopalong Cassidy to life.
  • The Patriot Park mural in Byesville, Ohio is a vibrant, patriotic-themed artwork installed in the village’s new Patriot Park, created to honor first responders and members of the U.S. military. It serves as a focal point of the park—along with flag displays and a fountain—and reflects community pride and tribute to everyday heroes. The mural was unveiled as part of the park’s opening during the Jonathan Bye Days Festival in 2025. The Statue of Liberty is located to the right of the mural as a symbol of freedom and liberty, the soldier located on the left and opposite side of the Statue of Liberty, represents those who protect our freedom and the people in the middle represent the everyday Patriots that are able to serve and perform their duties because of such freedoms and liberty.

Murals like these are more than works of art—they’re reflections of who we are as a community. Through Murals Across Ohio, we celebrate the artists, the stories, and the places that make Guernsey County and Ohio unique.

We invite you to explore the Murals Across Ohio map and discover great art and great places across the state—and right here in the heart of Guernsey County.

To honor the 250th anniversary of the United States, Guernsey County is proud to present a series of events and programs that reflect the spirit, history and future of our community. These events are designed to engage residents and visitors alike, inspiring reflection on our past while celebrating the diverse voices and shared values that continue to shape Guernsey County and the nation. Join us throughout the year as we come together in remembrance, celebration and unity.
