Only in Guernsey County, Ohio

From safaris to water skiing, Guernsey County offers endless attractions that you might never have imagined in Ohio; but some local lore feels (almost) too exotic to believe. Frequent reports of Bigfoot sightings have popped up throughout this forested region for decades. Sightings tend to cluster in and around Salt Fork State Park, so keep your eyes peeled for the furry foot while enjoying all the amenities.

An annual Bigfoot conference brings together both looky-loos and cryptozoologists intent on finding the long elusive creature.

One place you’re sure to spot exotic animals is The Wilds, an animal conservation center owned and operated by the Columbus Zoo. The meadows come alive as riders safari across what appears to be an African plain complete with rhinos, giraffes, camels, zebras and much more. Specialty and zipline tours add to the family fun. You’ll work up a lion-sized appetite, so stop by the Rooftop Terrace.

Connect with the region’s fascinating past at the Guernsey History Museum, housed in a nearly 200- year old, restored 16-room home museum, including its depiction of an authentic one-room schoolhouse and a lifelike replica of an 1890s coal mine.

Throughout the early 20th century, Cambridge Glass was synonymous worldwide with fine craftsmanship. Today, the National Museum of Cambridge Glass displays more than 10,000 pieces of this coveted antique glassware. Mosser Glass carries on that proud artisan tradition today, creating a range of hand-pressed classic and contemporary glass tableware and heirloom-quality gifts with free factory tours.

It isn’t only animals and artisans that make Cambridge such a unique destination. Now celebrating its 50th anniversary season, The Living Word Outdoor Drama continues to share the story of the latter years of Jesus on a 400-foot panoramic outdoor set recreation of Old Jerusalem. Nearly a half million people from all over the world have now seen this loving retelling of the “Greatest Story Ever Told.”
