Discover Ohio’s Creativity Trail

Ohioans have been at the center of American creativity for generations — and they continue to add richness to the American canvas. Today, Ohio offers countless opportunities to explore unique designs, learn from experts  and uncover the stories behind its remarkable artistic traditions.

The newly launched Ohio Creativity Trail features more than 100 inspiring sites across the state, with two in Cambridge/Guernsey County, Ohio. The trail features six distinct artistic genres/themes: Literature, Music, Visual Arts, Glass & Pottery, Folk & Traditional Arts and Carousel Art.

It is the art of glassmaking that has melded an interesting kaleidoscope of ingenuity, practicality and artistic flair in Southeast Ohio for more than a century.

In the early 1900s, Guernsey County, and particularly Cambridge, became known worldwide for its high-quality glass, produced primarily by the Cambridge Glass Company. Today, Cambridge glass is a much sought-after collectible. The company produced thousands of designs and color combinations considered one of the finest-quality glassware lines in the world.

Visitors to the National Museum of Cambridge Glass may take a guided tour through two display rooms, which are frequently rotated to feature historic and iconic glass pieces. The Sample Room features the original factory door and shelving and is decorated with Cambridge glassware as it may have appeared in the original Sample Room at the Cambridge Glass Company. The second room features period glass, based on a theme from private collectors’ collections.

The History of Glassmaking is presented through mannequins in 1100 square feet of exhibits, including a mock furnace, tools, molds and other items involved in the manufacturing process of fine handmade glassware. Within this area, visitors may see an etching table, a decorating area and an engraving/cutting area.

An original movie produced by The Cambridge Glass Company in the 1940s is available for viewing during the tour. The museum offers a gift shop where visitors may purchase small glass items and select from a variety of library books for research. Open April through October: Wednesday—Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. For the holidays, the National Museum of Cambridge Glass is open November-December on Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 4 p.m.

Since 1971, Mosser Glass has manufactured the highest quality glassware in Cambridge, Ohio —

and today stands as the only pressed glass factory in the United States. Each piece reflects a timeless blend of beauty, tradition and fine craftsmanship created by skilled artisans who continue a family legacy more than half a century strong.

Visitors are invited to enjoy a free guided tour and watch the fascinating glass-making process up close — from molten glass to stunning finished pieces. Afterwards, browse the expansive 2,000-square-foot showroom  featuring elegant tableware, vibrant collectibles and heirloom-quality gifts.
