Family Getaways

If you're looking for a great getaway on a budget here are 7 ideas that will keep your family entertained and busy in Guernsey County!

  1. Hit The Road Jack!
Designated in 1827 by President Thomas Jefferson, the National Road (Rt. 40) became the nation's first interstate highway. This ribbon of road runs through the heart of the county and features several interesting sites, including a unique "S" shaped bridge. (Great photo op!)
  2. Fun in the Sun
Ohio's largest state park, Salt Fork, is located here. This summer, let your feet sink into the warm, soft sand at one of the largest inland beaches in Ohio.
  3. Great American Steam Locomotive Museum
Master craftsman Brian C. Gray has crafted massive steam locomotives from walnut for more than 40 years. His display room/museum includes an operating model train system and more!
  4. What a View!
Perched high atop a scenic ridge, the Georgetown Vineyard offers a bird's-eye view of Cambridge. Stop by to sample wines, purchase your favorite, or just enjoy the view!
  5. A Glass Act
Mosser Glass offers free guided factory tours for visitors to learn about the glass making process up close. (Martha Stewart is a Mosser fan!)
  6. Window Shopping
It doesn't cost a nickel to window shop! Downtown Cambridge offers many eclectic shops along Wheeling Avenue that are reminiscent of the early 20th Century!
  7. Covered Bridges
Finally, you don't want to miss a stroll through one of the last remaining covered bridges in the county. The Armstrong/Clio Covered Bridge built in 1849 is located along the Cambridge City Park walking trail.
